The Arctic League is an all-volunteer, 501(c)(3), non-profit organization whose mission is to ensure that no child in Chemung County goes without gifts on Christmas. We’ve been proud to serve our community for over 100 years! Click here to read our history!
Every year from mid-November until just before Christmas, the Arctic League accepts applications for Christmas morning deliveries. Each weekday, the office is staffed by the Chemung Volunteer Action Corps (CVAC) who perform a variety of tasks.
The volunteers assist clients in completing the application either by phone or in person. Great care is given to make sure that all required information is collected. The CVAC volunteers also make follow-up phone calls to collect the proper information on incomplete application forms.
Once a family’s application is complete, another volunteer inputs the information into the computer system, which checks for duplicates and other inconsistencies. The computer then prints labels that are placed onto the packing tags. These tags contain the information that is used to pack the bags for delivery.
Other duties such as filing, mailing the Annual Report and answering general questions are always performed in a cheerful, professional and confidential manner.
